Dr. Erik G. Palmer is a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician. He completed two residencies one in family medicine and the other in general surgery. Since 2001, he has served as the medical director of Desert Family Medical Center located in both Palm Springs and Cathedral City. His extensive experience with treating highly complex patients with multi-level and multiple comorbidities has allowed him to be an extremely capable mentor to future physicians and allied health professionals. Dr. Palmer’s belief is that each patient must be diagnosed accurately in order to move forward with an effective treatment plan.
He is a fifth generation Southern Californian committed to delivering excellence in family medicine to his community. His commitment to the future of the medical community in this desert is evidenced by his role as a Clinical Assistant Professor for Loma Linda University School of Medicine since 2006. Dr. Palmer’s objectiveness and passion for quality patient care has led him to serve on various committees at Desert Regional Medical Center which have included: Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine for twelve-years; Chairman of the Patient Safety; Chairman of Allied Health Committee; Member of Peer Review Committee; Member of Graduate Education Committee. His expertise has also had him serve as a Member of the Quality Assurance Committee for Desert Oasis Healthcare.
Dr. Palmer has had extensive experience in hospice care through serving as medical directors for Premier Care Center, Palm Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and Charter Hospice. He believes that the relationship of trust and confidence between a patient and his/her doctor fosters ease in the transitions of life. He has the privilege to serve patients ranging from newborn to age 107 years old.

Ms. Pham hails from Santa Ana, California. She exemplifies the excellence in diversity and immigration in the United States. Her family immigrated to the U.S. when she was 5 years old, and she is now a naturalized citizen of our great nation. Prior to being a physician assistant, she worked in the bioengineering industry as a laboratory associate. Her desire to work with people at a one-on-one level led her to earn her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. Her commitment to the human condition is evidenced by her long-term volunteerism with Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Ministry, which travels to remote and rural areas of Vietnam in order to assist people without access to modern medical or dental care.

Dr. Yang has served as the Executive Director of Desert Family Medical Center since 2001. Ms. Vega was born in Palm Springs and raised in Cathedral City. She is a first generation Mexican-American and a 2009 graduate of Cathedral City High School. She earned her Medical Assisting Certificate from Kaplan College and is fluent in both English and Spanish. Her professionalism with detail and sincere care for our patients is part of the backbone of the integrity of our medical offices. She is in charge of the daily operations and the implementation of policies and procedures. Her role at Desert Family Medical Center is integral to the mission and ethics that are expected and upheld at our organization. She has been a team member at our offices since 2010.

Mr. Avila is a native of Indio, California. He graduated from Indio High School and earned his Accounting Certificate from Milan Institute with Top Honors with a 4.0 GPA. He interned for the City of Indio as an Accounts Payable Clerk. Previous to joining our team at Desert Family Medical Center he was working in the hospitality industry. He has embraced a new career challenge in the medical field to excel and contribute with essential medical information management. His calmness and ability to learn various tasks quickly allows our information management to be handled with integrity and accuracy. Aside from his clerical duties he is very apt with patient services with his care and concern to each patient that calls or comes to one of our offices.
Ms. Barreto is a native of Palm Springs, California. Her dedication and passion towards being an active part of the medical field began in her sophomore year of high school; she was part of the Health Academy at La Quinta High School. In 2013 she graduated from Kaplan College with 4.0 GPA, Dean’s List and Perfect Attendance. Previous to joining Desert Family Medical Center as a Patient Care Associate, she was an integral team member at two large medical specialists offices, Orthopedic Surgery and Urology respectively.
Jessica passed her National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) examination administered by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) on June 16th, 2017. Her certification puts her in the top 1% of medical assistants whom are dedicated at the highest competence and professional level in her field.
It is Jessica’s belief that her mission in life is to use her talents in the medical field to assist patients in need, and to work as part of an integrative dynamic care team to deliver the highest quality medical care to each patient. Her core beliefs of open and proper communication with team members, supervisors and patients; compassion and consistency with patient care are the hallmarks of her work ethics towards her ability to deliver quality and effective health care to each of our patients.
Mrs. Guerrero is a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). She is a native of Palm Springs and graduated from Cathedral City High School. Her training in the medical field is extensive; hence she completed the Clinical Healthcare Technician program through California Nurses Educational Institute. Mrs. Guerrero is trained in the areas of Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA), Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and Patient Care Technician. Her desire to pursue a career in the medical field is based on her belief that when people are in need of medical care they need to be treated with kindness and personal attention can make a difference between a good visit versus a great visit. She feels that Desert Family Medical Center is a place that is cohesive and the team puts patients’ first and she is proud to be part of this dynamic organization. Professionally, she feels she is at a place that allows her to strive to be the best she can be in her chosen field.
Ms. Rosales’ passion for working in the medical field stems from her desire to constantly learn more about others and ever-changing world of medicine. Born in Indio and raised in Cathedral City, she is a graduate of Cathedral City High School. She earned her Dental Assisting Certificate from Kaplan College. Her role at our organization is to serve as the lead for our Palm Springs office. Her positive and outgoing attitude puts people at ease and she is ready to help our patients with care and concern. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
Ms. Soria was raised in the heart of Coachella. A proud Mexican-American, she immigrated from Mexico at a young age and became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. Paola is a proud graduate of Coachella Valley High School and earned her Administrative Medical Assisting Certificate with a grade point average of 4.0 and perfect attendance. Ms. Soria passed the California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) 3-part examination in the Basic, Administrative, and Clinical sections on September 25th, 2017. Her certification makes her in the 1% of medical assistants that are in the league of excellence for there chosen field. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Prior to joining Desert Family Medical Center, she was in the hospitality industry. Her commitment to her new career is based on her desire to have positive interactions with patients and making sure that each patient is given the highest level of medical service she is able for their individual needs. Paola feels that a friendly attitude and her natural inclination to always go above and beyond helps her be the best medical assistant she can be for this organization.
